Gallic Dream II
Photography by Ted Pfaltz

Gallic Dream II, photography from the winters of 2005 and 2006 in the cities of Paris, Dresden, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, explores the changing roll of femininity in society as seen through advertising, early modernism today and the artist's passion for the city of Paris.

Wine Tastings
After numerous requests from our customers, Basic Necessities is now offering wine tasting on Wednesday afternoons. Each week Kay selects a variety of wines, drags out the map of France, and welcomes a gregarious group of wine lovers who want to learn more about this delicious, if sometimes mysterious, beverage. Yes, we taste wines, but more importantly, Kay teaches about the culture, region, and nuances of individual wines. It is definitely a "class participation" event and each week varies with the background of those attending.

Some weeks Kay chooses wines from a specific French region (i.e. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne) and some weeks she selects random wines to compare. On several occasions we have invited representatives from local wineries to discuss their particular wines.

Want to learn more about wine and have an enjoyable afternoon? Call us to make reservations our dining porch each Wednesday and every other Tuesday. The Price varies but is usually between $14 and $18 which includes at least 3 different wines, fresh bread and a selection of cheeses or a special treat from our kitchen!

Afternoon Tea

Do you dream of a slower, quieter time when friends valued an hour together over a pot of tea in the afternoon? Dream no more. At Basic Necessities we still take time to serve a pot of proper English tea, accompanied by a scone with clotted cream and jam.
